Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is considered as easy and one of the popular short treks also suitable for beginners and families. It is a less than a week-long trek, five days trek. This circuit is at the lower part of the Annapurna Range and the trek is also known as the Annapurna Sunrise Trek.

In the foothills of the Annapurna to Ghorepani and Poon Hill, you’ll find beautiful snow-capped mountains Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Gurung and Magar villages, terraced slopes, paddy fields and dense Rhododendron (Nepal’s national flower) forest. Poon Hill lies above Ghorepani Village. This place is popular you can get mind-blowing sunrise views.

The altitude of Ghorepani is 2874 m and lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area. At Ulleri there are more than 3000 stone steps to ascend and a chance to explore beautiful local villages. After climbing these steps panoramic views of Mount Dhaulagiri can be seen. There are also the hot springs at Jhinu Danda also known as Ghorepani hot springs.

Ghorepani Poon hill trekking best season

Tourists trek to Ghorepani and Poon Hill throughout the year but the best trekking season in this region is during spring (March-May) and autumn (Sep-Nov) when the skies are clear. During spring the climate is mild and the Ghorepani rhododendron flower blooms. Autumn is also a good season when the temperature is moderate.

During this season the views are fantastic and you can take beautiful photos and videos. During winter snowfall and low temperatures make the trek challenging and during monsoon the trails are wet and slippery.

Ghorepani Poon hill trek 5 days

Day 1: Pokhara – Ulleri – Ghorepani
Day 2: Hike to Poon Hill viewpoint – Tadapani
Day 3: Tadapani – Jhinu Danda
Day 4: Jhinu Danda – Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi – Nayapul – Pokhara
Day 5: Pokhara – Kathmandu

This trek includes 2 days to reach Ghorepani, Poon Hill and 3 days to return to Nayapul. Ghorepani Poon Hill 5 days trek begins with a drive from Pokhara to Ulleri via Tikhedhunga but we can also start from Kathmandu. From Tikhedhunga, we’ll move towards Ghorepani. Next morning, we’ll move to Poon Hill and from there you can get amazing views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhare (Fishtail). From Poon Hill, we’ll return to Tadapani along with the rhododendron forests. On the third day, from Tadapani we’ll reach Jhinu Danda where you can enjoy hot spring. On the fourth day, we will trek to Siwa / Ghandruk Phedi from Jhinu Danda. We’ll leave Pokhara on a bus to Kathmandu.

The highest point of this trek is Poon Hill at 3210 m and normally the symptoms of altitude sickness are seen above 4000 m. Altitude sickness can be avoided by keeping your body hydrated, avoid alcohol, smoking and caffeine. Go slow and don’t skip the acclimatization day.
