Nagarkot Dhulikhel Hiking

Among all the places for mountain viewing in the Kathmandu Valley, Nagarkot and Dhulikhel are usually considered to be the best. The view goes from Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Everest (Sagamatha). You can also see Manaslu (8,848m), Ganesh Himal (7,111m), and Langtang (7,246m). Many people go up to Nagarkot and Dhulikhel for Hiking to see the panoramic views of the Himalaya, Villages and then get-up at dawn to see the sunrise view also.

Nagarkot is situated about 35km east of Kathmandu, on the Northeast edge of the Valley at an elevation of 2,175m. It is the best place, where you will get excellence views that has a coffee shop inside. There is a lookout tower south of the Village where you can get a 360 degrees view of the scenery. It is an easy and a little hard way about one & half hour hiking from the main hotel areas. A trip to Nagarkot will nearly always be rewarded with a view between October & March. During the monsoon season from June to September, It is unlikely to get a view of the mountains. Nagarkot may be much colder than Kathmandu, especially in the winter so that you should bring warm clothing, flashlight ( torch ) etc.

Dhulikhel is situated about 35 km away from eastern part of Kathmandu and is located about 1550 meter from the sea level. It is an old Newari town and has approximately 16 thousand population there. This town is accessed via the Arniko Highway that connects Kathmandu with the Tibetan border town of Kodari and takes about an one and half hour drive from Kathmandu. It has for many centuries been an important trading centre on the ancient commercial route between Nepal and Tibet. Since time immemorial, Nepali people travel to Tibet to bring home salt and gold. Likewise, Tibetans people every year with their flocks of sheep enter into Nepal during Dashain Festival. They used to purchase chilies and other daily necessities in Nepal and return to their homeland. Drinking water in Dhulikhel is some of the best water in Nepal. It was made with the help of German NGO.

The spectacular snow fed mountains seen from Dhulikhel must be one of the finest panoramic views in the world. When a blue haze covers the lower portion of the mountains, they seem to be floting in the air. With the snowy mountains on the backdrop, Dhulikhel is a stage of immense beauty and a paradise for nature lovers. Green inviting hills of which still virgin and some turned into beautifully carved agricultural terraces cater to the beholder pleasure. Geographically, the plains rise up gradually up to the green mountains and further into the snow-capped Himalayas. The panorama offers a majestic undisturbed view of the Himalayan ranges stretching from Mount Annapurna in the far west to Mount Karolung in the far East. More than 20 Himlayan peaks including Mt. Annapurna (8091m), Mt. Ganesh Himal (7429m), Mt. Langtang (7234m), Mt. Gaurishanker (7134m), Mt. Lhotse (8516m), so on can be seen in their full glory from the different vantage points in Dhulikhel.
